Bihar Launches Women-Led Recycling Hubs in Semi-Urban Areas

In towns like Gaya and Muzaffarpur, Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Department has launched community recycling hubs operated by women Self-Help Groups. These centers collect dry waste from neighborhoods and sort it into plastic, paper, metal, and glass. The waste is sold to processing units, and profits are shared among members. The centers also run awareness campaigns in schools and hold monthly clean-up drives. Over 200 women are now directly employed, and around 15 tons of waste is processed monthly. The program not only promotes waste management but also boosts women’s financial independence and environmental leadership.
